Onder de Noorse balk staat: De sterren knipperen in de nacht.. Ergens voel ik dat deze zin niet kan kloppen. Is het niet eerder De sterren schijnen in de nacht.? --Ooswesthoesbes 15 jul 2009 10:27 (CEST)
- Hallo Oostwesthoesbos,
bei dem Wort blinke geht es nicht nur um die Funktion der Sterne, Licht zu senden, also zu scheinen. Mit "blinke" ist gemeint, dass die Sterne einmal zu sehen sind, dann wieder nicht. In Deutsch heißt das "Die Sterne blinken". Das niederländische Wort blinken bedeutet ja eher "glänzen" (wenn das Silberbesteck oder der Schmuck geputzt worden ist). Das norwegische "blinke" meint: mal "an", mal "aus", wie beim Licht auf dem Leuchtturm oder bei dem Blaulicht auf dem Polizeiauto oder dem Blinker für rechts und links am Auto.
Auf der Webseite Hoe moet je beginnen met sterren kijken steht am Anfang die Frage: "Vraag jij je ook af waarom sommige sterren lijken te knipperen?" Daher gehe ich davon aus, dass niederländische Sterne knipperen können. Aber vielleicht gibt es in der niederländischen Sprache dafür ein besseres Wort. -- Cadfaell 15 jul 2009 10:55 (CEST)

- I'm not sure, but I don't think so. "Schitteren" means too much the relevance of "shining". "Knipperen" meets better the sense of "blinking". But what ever, I'm not familiar with Dutch. I found fonkelen, schijnen, flikkeren, glanzen, stralen, twinkelen, glimmen, glinsteren, schitteren, sprankelen, knipperen.

- I think twinkelen would be a good translation, according to the Van Dale dictionary it means: "met wisselende glans stralen". That's exactly what stars do I think. Groeten GRUNNEN OVERLEG 15 jul 2009 11:59 (CEST)
- Thank you, Grunnen. What says Van Dale to "knipperen". I hasitate because www.yahoo.nl has more than 25,000 hits for "sterren knipperen", but only a tenth of it for "sterren twinkelen". So "knipperen" seems more comman than "twinkelen". -- Cadfaell 15 jul 2009 12:15 (CEST)
- Van Dale on knipperen: "herhaaldelijk of voortdurend de ogen openen en sluiten." and "lampen snel aan en uit doen". Neither seems well suited to describe our stars, but I think that the similarities with the second definition leads to the use you found on the net. In the end the difference between these words is largely stylistic: they both indicate that as time passes, the amount of light coming from the source differs. The only real difference is probably that twinkelen doesn't necesarily imply that moments of total darkness have to occur.
