::::In any case, at least now you know why we use ’ U+2019, and you know that the Taalunie does too. Btw other Wiktionaries do to. So you initional question has been answered. I hope the redirects from :fr:’s-Hertogenbosch to 's-Hertogenbosch doesn't get removed by a bot because that seem to be a reasonable solution. --Moyogo 27 sep 2011 11:32 (CEST)
::::: Hi everybody, sorry to intervene here but (and I don't intend to be rude or hurt anyone) well since I am not Dutch I can probably give you, and your French colleagues, an opinion that you could deem unbiased (even if the fact that I come from the Occitan/Catalan wikis, among other things, might not play in my favor...). I think you do not grasp the real issue, and worse you all keep on insisting... Let's put this into another context, how would you, in the French wiktionary, appreciate having four people or more from the English wiktionary tell you that you do not write the vowels properly, that you use way too often open vowels in languages like Italian, Greek and so on, with some kind of hasty behavior that keeps on insisting that you do not know enough (the rules of) your own language and so on...
:::::It is more the fact that you intervened as a "pack" and lecturing people than the things you are telling actually. I suppose that when you go to someone's house, you don't tell them how they should arrange their furniture except if there is a certain confidence between you and these people, and man even in this case I wouldn't probably dare... so imagine that after yout first comment you came back some other day and brought a whole team of decorators wishing to change the house (or a part of it...), even if you are convinced you are right and that the previous atmosphere was bad... I just let you imagine what can happen...
:::::Moreover, you should know that the interventions of a group are sorely appreciated and can also/even be perceived as some kind of "threat" as was the intervention of a bunch of Occitan people in order to avoid the erasure of an article not that long ago in the French Wikipedia; in our specific case it even came to appear in one question of the Stewards election namely: "You find out that some editors from a regional language community are on a mission to vandalize the French language projects - they use all the tricks they can find to vandalize. They are constructive on their own language Wikipedia."; so you can have an idea how any interventions can be perceived even if this community is not as terrible, threatening or hostile as the Occitan hordes usually are...!
::::: To come to my last point, I think we all have more pressing things/matters to do than writing here endlessly; let's improve our wiktionaries and borrow what is good or interesting from one another; I suppose we all are good willed persons, I trust the Dutch team here to be intelligent and sound people (I know for sure they are nice, hardworking and really open to small or minorized languages...), and well if they someday feel the urge to change the apostroph they will do it by themselves. I think they have understood what you said and meant, but well as I also think the apostroph is not this important an issue to deal with right now (moreover conventions can change from time to time as it happened in German, or even in French, according to the needs/use of the speakers/writers or forced by academies) you should concentrate on other issues; furthermore the importance of its typographical form seems to matter more in French than in other languages... so only time will tell... I wish you all the best. Bonne journée et bon travail! Claudi/Capsot 27 sep 2011 12:42 (CEST)
