Hi Jcwf, I hope you are doing fine. Well, we haven't met this problem yet... I guess the French (quoting you) "in their infinite wisdom" and let me add, their "modest" ego, do not even contemplate there exists an Occitan wik/dictionary... I think you made the right decision and don't worry much about it. This is sheer vandalism, if you have told them and they are not willing to listen well, there is no other solution (I hope they won't try to invade/subdue us with the open vowels they use everywhere...). Even though I am not much if there ever was to be a conflict about it just let me know I will try to give a hand if needed. The real problem is the one about the "French exception" and we have to suffer it constantly in minorized languages like Occitan and it goes way beyond the apostrophe; there is a space after the "double" signs (that is : ; ! and ?) so I have spent huge amounts of time to try to convince to stick to international conventions which are, moreover, less complex (unfortunately there are programs using the French conventions and argh...). The same applies for the numbers 200.000 vs. (French) 200 000! Well, I wish you good luck about this and all the best for the rest. I wish I could contribute more here but well I have decided to try to help the Occitan Wikipedia the best I could so I devote most of my energies there... but well if you or your people here ever need something from me just let me know. : From what I have just read the "problem" came from Vigneron, I don't know him but from what I have read from time to time I think he is a nice person and he seems to be able to speak Breton to some extent so he is not the typical blindminded person you could expect to meet. :: Oh Man, I thought there was just one person but well I have realized my mistake and I am afraid now that your wiktionary is about to be taken over by the French wiktionary... How can it be you do not have friends in the Taalunie just like this person (I hope it won't be like the European Union otherwise the German wiktionary might help their French counterpart though I think there is much more education over there...), beware they are going to teach you how to speak and write your language properly..., man I am just so glad they can't send Napoleon after all of us!
Well, it is rather funny since the Occitan community was kind of accused of being vandals not that long ago. Our clash even came to be one of the questions (supposedly far from reality) of Effeietsanders during the Stewards elections, that is: "You find out that some editors from a regional language community are on a mission to vandalize the French language projects - they use all the tricks they can find to vandalize. They are constructive on their own language Wikipedia."
Actually it is more sad than funny but well, I guess that "small" languages are seen as a threat, or mosquitoes to be wiped out, for the big languages.
::This came out as some deletionists of the French Wikipedia, who seem to enjoy erasing (or trying to erase) Occitan articles on a probably periodical basis, threatened an article (which was not well constructed and was some kind of political tribune...) on the "strange" claim that the group was not a known one (they talked about selling 50.000 copies or getting a Grammy which as you know is commonplace for Occitan things!) and some people urged some Occitan contributors to participate and well we intervened (probably four or five people, that is a great unstoppable army...) and we appeared then as some kind of bad people... as you can see in the question of the Stewards elections. It is also interesting to notice how news can spread fast from the Wikipedias to the Chapters... but well I know that I get a lot of attention after my different moves so it should not surprise me... I hope this "conflict" will stop here and that they won't bother anymore so you can keep on doing this great work of yours! Bye, see you soon/Groetjes!
